SQLI Supports Groupe SEB in the cloud migration of its e-commerce platform

Groupe SEB, a global leader in small domestic appliances and professional equipment, relies on a rich digital ecosystem to support its international growth. As part of this strategy, the group has initiated the cloud migration of its SAP Commerce e-commerce platform, with the support of SQLI, its long-standing partner on this solution since 2016.

2024

CONTEXT

Groupe SEB, a global reference in small household and professional equipment, leverages an e-commerce platform to support its international expansion. For over ten years, SQLI has overseen the platform’s continuous improvement and managed its ongoing development. In 2023, facing the obsolescence of the on-premise model, Groupe SEB launched the migration of its platform to SAP Commerce Cloud.

CHALLENGES

The migration to the cloud went far beyond a simple infrastructure shift. It addressed several strategic objectives:

  • Comply with SAP’s new hosting requirements
  • Enhance security, improve performance, and increase the agility of the e-commerce ecosystem
  • Return to a standardized foundation by streamlining custom developments accumulated over the years—making migration and maintenance easier, and allowing more efficient use of SAP Commerce Cloud’s new features
  • Redesign support team processes, particularly environment management and deployment workflows
  • Accelerate update cycles to reduce platform freeze periods and optimize maintenance costs

« Choosing SQLI was an obvious decision,” explains Jean-Charles BRUGIROUX, IT E-Commerce Manager at Groupe SEB. We’ve been working together for many years in a relationship built on trust. Their teams, who know our platform inside and out thanks to their ongoing involvement, were best positioned to support us in this strategic project. »

OUR ROLES

The project mobilized two multidisciplinary SQLI teams over the course of more than a year, bringing together a wide range of expertise: back-end and front-end developers, architects, business analysts, Scrum Masters, DevSecOps, infrastructure, and support teams.

The scope of work included:

  • Upstream preparation of the platform and realignment with SAP standards
  • preliminary version upgrade to ensure cloud compatibility, prior to the actual migration to SAP Commerce Cloud
  • Adaptation of business and technical processes to the SAP Commerce Cloud environment
  • Performance optimization work, carried out during the project to ensure the shared platform remained stable and responsive

The platform was successfully deployed in production in June 2024.

RESULTS

The Black Friday 2024 peak period served as a large-scale test for the new platform. The observed performance validated the technical choices made:

  • significant increase in revenue compared to the 2023 edition
  • No service interruptions, despite high traffic peaks
  • high-quality migration, with a very low bug rate
  • notable reduction in the time required for updates

Now running in a cloud environment, the platform is more agile and easier to evolve. SQLI continues to support Groupe SEB in optimizing the use of SAP Commerce Cloud and integrating the group's future functional and technical developments.

We truly felt supported and guided by SQLI throughout the entire migration phase. We experienced unwavering commitment and involvement from both their global and local teams. This momentum fostered strong collaboration with our own teams.Beyond the technical challenges, this project was also a remarkable human adventure, involving around ten teams—including infrastructure, support, DevSecOps, development, testing, SEO, security and customer service who worked hand in hand to successfully carry out this transformation.
