Behind every transaction is a purpose.

At Røde Kors Førstehjelp, digital tools don’t just drive efficiency — they help support life-saving work across Norway.

Røde Kors Førstehjelp (Red Cross First Aid) is a nationwide provider of first aid equipment, training, and defibrillators in Norway. As a wholly owned company of the Norwegian Red Cross, a large portion of its revenue is reinvested in local and national humanitarian efforts. Every customer purchasing from Røde Kors Førstehjelp directly supports critical volunteer and emergency response activities.

The Challenge

Røde Kors Førstehjelp needed a future-proof e-commerce solution to match its growing role as Norway’s leading first aid provider. In addition to offering high-quality products, they conduct more than 4,000 certified first aid courses each year – a logistical undertaking that previously relied on a separate custom-built course application.

Key challenges included:

  • Migrating course functionalities from a legacy system without disrupting day-to-day operations
  • Creating a modern, intuitive interface that made product discovery and course booking easier
  • Integrating key third-party services such as payment, punchout, and search
  • Building a scalable platform that could evolve with future needs

Our Solution

We built a completely new site from scratch, using Optimizely as the core e-commerce and CMS platform – strengthened by our in-house accelerator Ignite, which offers an out-of-the-box headless frontend and best-practice architecture for rapid development.

From day one, the collaboration was shaped by trust and openness. Rather than working as separate entities, we approached the project as one joint team, sharing insights, solving challenges together, and always keeping the end user in focus.

Our solution focused on:

  • Seamless migration of course functionalities from the legacy system
  • Custom integrations with Shopspray (punchout), Avarda (payment), and Hello Retail (search)
  • A complete UX and design uplift – improving navigation, clarity, and mobile performance
  • Robust technical foundation with room to scale and evolve over time

Working with SQLI felt more like collaborating with colleagues than with an external agency. They were approachable, knowledgeable, and really listened to our needs. The end result is something we’re proud of – and that truly reflects who we are.
