Talk Title: Automation First Approach

Discover how SQLI and Nespresso implemented a robust Automation First strategy that accelerated release cycles, reduced manual testing efforts, and ensured higher quality across digital platforms.

How to deliver automatic regression test cases every sprint and shorten the testing timelines for your releases.

Nespresso had a goal: move from a 2-month release cycle to faster, high-quality deliveries. But with a monolithic architecture and limited automation capability, teams struggled. High maintenance costs, manual execution, and weak collaboration between devs, tech leads, and QA engineers were holding them back. Enter the Automation-First Approach – a strategic mindset shift that turned testing into a sprint-ready, collaborative, and value-generating process. Together, SQLI and Nespresso embarked on a journey to take care of quality since the first stages of every new delivery. The result? More tests automated on time and a real boost in delivery confidence.

In this talk, Laura and Andrea will explain how teams moved from monolithic E2E testing to a modular approach, enabling faster automation and easier maintenance. They will demonstrate how using Gherkin standardised test cases and fostered cross-role collaboration. The advantages of choosing Playwright for frontend and API automation within a unified framework will be explored. They will show how integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines improved speed, and coverage. Finally, they will emphasize the mindset shift required for success and how in-sprint delivery of automated tests reduced delays and manual effort, accelerating releases and improving overall quality.
