Release of the 2nd edition of the book co-written by four SQLI experts - Pascal Grojean, Médéric Morel, Simon-Pierre Nolin and Guillaume Plouin- (Dunod). Preface by Jean-Marc Berlioux, Senior Program Director at Gartner France.
Do we need to worry about performance in computing applications? Machines are constantly gaining in power, loyal to the rate foreseen by Gordon Moore. The same goes for network speeds, which have increased approximately three times faster than processors according to the findings of George Gilder. We may therefore be tempted to think that technology will provide much more power than is required by the applications, at a low cost that is ever decreasing. Unfortunately, the reality is more nuanced as some applications show disappointing response times.
Rare are works addressing the efficiency of information systems in terms of technology, that is to say in terms of infrastructure, architecture and tools. That is what this book offers by methodically tackling sensitive issues on the role of information systems in business performance.
IT Architecture Performance is the fruit of the authors’ professional experience. This second edition is enriched with updates on business continuity, data centres and production management.
You will find a whole host of recommendations and best practices for handling a large share of performance problems, either in the future, or immediately by designing an application that incorporates these performance issues. The latter solution being, of course, the most potentially interesting.
This manual is divided into 4 major parts:
IT Architecture Performance is aimed at all those involved directly or indirectly with application and information system performance such as CIOs, research heads, architects, project managers, production managers and consultants.
