A sensory experience from Sqli agency
Castorama entrusted Sqli agency with the design and development of the Colours Box, an innovative touch screen terminal to help customers choose decorative paints, complete with a monitor screen for the stages of manufacture.
Researching and selecting colours for interiors is a time-consuming affair that can be a source of uncertainty for the less well-practiced customer. Customers expect fast and effective advice on both the quantity and the choice of their paint, as well as on complementary colours. Their needs are sometimes neglected, however, due to the unavailability of sales staff.
The terminal designed by the agency is a modern alternative to helping with this choice. This innovative solution provides a fun and sensory experience in-store. Connected to a machine that handles the automatic production of decorative paint, the touch-screen interface of the Colours Box guides users to the colours that best suit their requirements. For those in a rush who already know what they want, they simply enter the catalogue number and the paint manufacture process is underway. A real time-saver and improvement in self-service for the customer!
Sqli agency has revisited and brought to life the “Color Star” by Johannes Itten* to give Castorama’s customers an enjoyable and accessible experience. This intuitive terminal gives complete freedom of choice to the customer without neglecting the advice, expertise, and guidance required for this kind of purchase.
Navigation is carried out using the principle of waves on a water surface; a new wave unfolds at each stage. After selecting one or more colours, users can then retrieve their base tones in minutes. They then place them into a sealed compartment and manufacturing begins!
Sqli agency is also responsible for the interface that tracks each stage of mixture preparation. The customer is informed in real time of how the manufacture is progressing.
This successful collaboration has already given rise to new ideas, including the development of new functionalities based on the existing device. This innovative interface can now be tested in Castorama stores in Henin-Beaumont, Pas-de-Calais and Villabé in Essonne.
*The “Color Star" is derived from a theory by Johannes Itten (a Swiss painter and theoretician) that is suggested in his book "The Art of Color”. The Color Star is an essential tool for anyone looking to develop a consistent colour palette, to colour match and view combinations of two, three, four, five and six colours in isolation.
