SAIL.cloud gets on board
with SQLI and Microsoft

SQLI IS SUPPORTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF SAIL.CLOUD, THE FIRST COMMUNITY SAILING ACTIVITY TRACKING PLATFORM.

SAIL.cloud is a young start-up, based in La Rochelle, which aims to showcase the sailing activities of nearly 100 million enthusiasts worldwide, using a community tracking platform. Patrick Paul, the founder, is supported by Pierrick Blons, Microsoft Azure Lead at SQLI. Pierrick Blons has guaranteed the solution’s successful development by taking on the role of CTO and managing all the Azure technology R&D aspects.

THE STRAVA OF SAILING

Based on the same principle as the famous sports app, Strava, SAIL.cloud collects, aggregates and utilizes available data (location, navigation, performance, environment and functioning), whether provided by on-board computers or instruments, smartphones or smart watches used during sailing activities. Each outing is synchronised on a community platform dedicated to bringing together amateur and seasoned sailors. Using SAIL.cloud makes sailing safer by providing real-time viewing of sailing positions and conditions. The platform handles a huge amount of data and currently processes more than 22 million boat positions.

A B2B PLATFORM

Besides acting as a sailing social network, SAIL.cloud offers a B2B range of solutions. Currently, less than 1% of sailing races use a tracking solution. The platform is aimed at regatta organisers and sailing clubs, offering them a comprehensive support solution to manage their events: boat registration, course viewing, real-time competitor tracking, safety, etc. To date, SAIL.cloud’s offer has already been successfully used by several renowned races: Longue Route, Tour du Finistère, and even Transquadra.

A PARTNERSHIP WITH MICROSOFT

SQLI is working on the project’s development and consulting stages. The Group is providing SAIL.cloud with its AZURE technology expertise for the deployment of the solution, as well as resources via an R&D programme. SAIL.cloud recently signed up to the Microsoft for Startups programme and received a €120,000 AZURE grant, plus both business and tech support for the solution. By supporting SAIL.cloud’s business growth via this programme, SQLI is strengthening its partnership with Microsoft, which already counts the Group among its Gold Partners.
